Al-Burhan Receives Head of UNITAMS

Khartoum, (SUNA) – The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, received in his office on Saturday the Head of the  United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, and discussed the situation in the country.

Volcker said in a press statement that his meeting with the President of the Sovereign Council comes within a series of meetings he had with Prime Minister, Dr. Abdallah Hamdouk, and a number of members of the Sovereignty Council, indicating that he will also meet with the Forces of Freedom and Change.

He said that all these meetings aim to focus on the objective and real issues facing the transition process in Sudan.

The Head of UNITAMS explained that he discussed with the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council the relation between the civil and military components, as well as the situation in east Sudan, adding that the meeting stressed the importance of addressing the issue of east Sudan as a national issue that shall be taken into consideration.

He added that the meeting also discussed a draft road map for outstanding issues for the remainder of the transitional phase and the necessity of comprehensive and full dialogue between the political parties and agreement on a common road map.
