Al-Burhan Meets Vice-President of EU Commission

Khartoum, (SUNA) – The Head of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, met at the Guest’s House, afternoon, the Vice-President of the European Union Commission, Joseph Borrell.

In a press statement, Borrell said that his visit represents a clear message to Sudan and the region that the European Union will continue to strongly support the political transition process in Sudan, the program of the transitional government in particular, the achievement of peace and justice and Sudan’s readiness to cooperate with the International Criminal Court.

He added: “we believe that a democratic Sudan is a guarantee of stability in the region.”

He affirmed the EU support to the political process in Sudan with more than 150 million euro, indicating readiness to increase the sum to more than 100 million euro, with a humanitarian support to be announced during his visit to Darfur tomorrow.

He noted that Sudan has a historical opportunity for realizing a sustainable peace, calling on all the Sudanese parties to proceed in the peace negotiations in Juba to realize peace.

On his part, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Omer Gamar Eddin, explained that the visit indicates the world and, the EU concern with Sudan in this stage.

He asserted the Sudan’s partnership with the EU regarding the achievement of peace in Lybia, the state of South Sudan and the whole region.
