President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan has praised the efforts of the United Nations and its support to achieve peace and stability in Sudan and South Sudan.
This came when Al-Burhan met in his office today the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for South Sudan, Nicholas Haysom.
Al-Burhan reiterated the transitional government’s keenness to complete the peace process and achieve democratic transition in Sudan, in addition to working to bring the views closer between the parties, support the transitional period in South Sudan and implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan in order to achieve peace and stability, pointing out that the graduation of the joint forces in Juba is a serious step towards peace.
The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council expressed his hope for the United Nations to support the peace process and the revitalized agreement between the parties in South Sudan, noting that Sudan will continue to support the agreement in order to achieve peace and stability in South Sudan.
For his part, Nicholas Haysom, in a press statement following the meeting, praised Sudan’s
supportive stances for the success of the peace and stability process and the achievement of sustainable development in South Sudan, as the guarantor of the revitalized Juba Agreement, pointing out that the unification of forces and the adoption of a regular map and timetable is a critical development in the transitional phase.
He valued Sudan’s efforts, as chair of the current session of IGAD, to support the agreement of South Sudan, facilitate the process of dialogue and bring views closer.
In a press statement, Ambassador Qariballah Khader, Director of the Department of South Sudan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the meeting dealt with developments of the situation in South Sudan, noting that the President of the Sovereignty Council affirmed full cooperation of Sudan to support peace in South Sudan.
