Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and World Bank(WB) signed today an agreement in Khartoum upon which the latter provided a grant amounted to US$100 million to Sudan for enhancing its efforts against coronavirus.
The Minister of Finance and Economic planning Dr. Gibril Ibrahim signed for Sudan while WB Country Director, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan Ousmane Dione signed for the Bank.
The signing ceremony was attended by Federal Minister of Health Dr. Omer Al-Najeeb , the Minister of Federal Government Buthina Dinar and some senior officials.
Dr. Gibril described the grant as first of its kind to be provided to Sudan by WB after lifting Sudan’s name form countries sponsoring terrorism list.
The Minister of Health on his part stressed that US$8 million from the grant should be allocated for purchasing new vaccines saying, his ministry targeted vaccination of 20 million Sudanese citizens.
WB Country Director said the grant provision came in the context of reducing infection cases among population in Sudan and prevents fatalities resulting from coronavirus.
