USA affirms commitment to provide political and technical support for success of EGRD negotiations

The US State Department issued today, Friday, a statement about the results of the visit of its Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Jeffrey Feltman, to Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.

The US State Department indicated in its statement that Feltman affirmed his commitment to working with international partners to find a solution to the important regional issues, including the disputes over the EGRD, and the border dispute between Khartoum and Addis Ababa, so that the progress made in Sudan since the outbreak of the December revolution is not undermined. .

The statement added that Feltman discussed with the leaders of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia the water concerns of Sudan and Egypt about the Renaissance Dam and its safety and reconciled between Ethiopia’s development needs and the interests of Cairo and Khartoum.

The American envoy to the Horn of Africa discussed with the leaders of the three countries the peedy resumption of negotiations under the auspices of the African Union, based on the Declaration of Principles signed in 2015, stressing that the United States is committed to providing political and technical support to facilitate a successful outcome of the negotiations.

The statement concluded that the envoy would return to the region again to continue intensive diplomatic efforts to resolve differences in the region on behalf of the US’s President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
