UNHCR: Number of Ethiopian Refugees in Kasala and Gadarif States Tops 24944

Gadarif (SUNA) – The number of Ethiopian refugees who arrived in the states of Gedaref and Kassala as a result of the ongoing war in the Tigry region has amounted  to twenty-four thousand nine hundred forty-four refugees.

The Refugees Commissioner, Abdulla Suleiman and the Assistant Commissioner for Refugees in Sudan, Heise Man held a meeting, Friday, with the health officials in Gadarif State to review the interventions carried out, so far, to assist the refugees and the requested measures to meet the growing numbers of the new comers.

The UNHCR official underlined that the priority will be given to the provision of shelter, food and water for the refugees and their transportation to safe and remote areas away from soldiers.

He appealed to the urgent action by the international community and aid organizations to provide the requested support to the refugees fleeing the conflict in Tigyy region.
