Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry Sends Message to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

As part of the ongoing preparations for the convening of the ninth session of the political consultation committee between the Foreign Ministries of Sudan and Russia, scheduled in Moscow next September, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Sharif Abdalla,  sent a written message to his Russian counterpart and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mikhail Bogdanov, regarding the latest developments in the file of the Renaissance Dam crisis, after the tripartite the negotiations reached a deadlock due to the Ethiopian intransigence.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Undersecretary reviewed in his message Sudan’s position for reaching a comprehensive, fair, balanced and legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam through a serious and effective negotiating process that would enable the three countries, Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia, to achieve the desired agreement.

The Undersecretary also pointed to reactivation the proposal presented by Sudan, which was supported by Egypt, calling for the development of the tripartite negotiation mechanism through formation of an international quartet led by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and current head of the African Union, with the participation of the United Nations, the European Union and the United.

He stressed that the international efforts currently being made shall result in the launch of a serious negotiating process that leads to a comprehensive and just agreement that takes into account the interests of the three countries.
