Tawer Chairs Meeting of Demanding Bodies

Khartoum (SUNA) – The member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Professor Siddig Tawer, has chaired Tuesday the second meeting of the Assembly of Demanding Bodies.

Professor Siddig Tawer has affirmed in press statements, the transitional government’s keenness and concern with addressing the demands and legitimacy issues, pointing out that it include the issues of dams, lands, historical regions, industrial activity destructive to the environment, Kanabi groups and victims of the Port Sudan privatization, indicating its being an ongoing struggle between local communities and the elements of the defunct regime. .

He noted to the demanding bodies as an integral part of the revolution’s forces, and its importance to the revolution to fulfill these demands, asserting that general atmosphere is favorable for achieving them.

Tawer indicated the meeting review of the achievements and failures regarding the implementation of these demands, pointing to the progress made in these files despite the faltering of formation of the government executive and legislative bodies, adding that decisions have been issued for the treatment of some files.

He pointed to the agreement of the executive body to hold direct meetings with the concerned parties in each file, with holding detailed workshops to arrange visions for finding the required treatments, and it was also agreed to arrange field visits to some areas to follow up the implementation of what was agreed upon, asserting commitment to provide a headquarters for the gathering of demanding bodies and to provide some aids to facilitate their work.

The representative of the Secretariat of the Demanding Bodies, Osama Omer, reviewed accomplishments in the issues of  the demanding bodies, pointing to the holding of conference for the mining issues, with the participation of representatives of local communities , the discussion of the land file in Khartoum State and other states on which a consensus was reached with the states acting governors in coordination with the executive body.

He noted to the meeting discussion of the issues of Al- Fashagah and Abyei, and the unemployed graduates for which a special conference will be held, in addition to an agreement for speeding up steps for addressing the issues of the affected people by the construction of the dams in Meroe, and the upper Atbara River.
