Sudan’s Peace special Envoy Visits Juba

The Sudan’s special envoy for peace in South Sudan, Ambassador Abdel Rahman Bakheet, visited Juba on Wednesday, to introducing himself to the government of South Sudan after assuming this position last July.

The visit of Ambassador Abdel Rahman Bakheet accompanied by Ambassador Hassan Abdel Salam, Director General of the African Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brigadier Abdullah Abu Auf, Ministry of Defense, and a representative of the General Intelligence Service came for reviewing the latest developments in South Sudan’s peace process, and to emphasize Sudan’s bilateral and regional role in support of this process.

The delegation headed by Sudan’s special envoy for peace in South Sudan, met with the Vice-President of the Republic of South Sudan, Hussein Abdel-Bagi, Lieutenant-General Tut Galwak, the Presidential Adviser for Security Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Beatrice Khamisa Wani.

Ambassador Abdel Rahman Bakheet indicated during the meetings that the Sudan is still giving the highest priority to the peace file of South Sudan due to the distinguished relations between the people and government of the two countries, and the link between the peace process in the two countries and their impact on peace and security of the whole region.

He also stressed the Sudan’s regional role as the current head of the IGAD, in which the peace process in South Sudan remains important on the organization’s agenda, pointing to the IGAD countries great concern for the implementation of the agreement’s phases which is its main guarantor.

Ambassador Bakheet has lauded what have been achieved in this regard, noting to the completion of the formation of the Transitional National Parliament, as well as the recent developments within the opposition’s of the People’s Movement and the accompanying armed confrontations.

The Sudan’s special envoy for peace in South Sudan has called on the parties of the conflict to abide by the agreement, letter and spirit, and not to engage in any confrontations that threaten the peace process, and to resort to dialogue to address the causes that led to these confrontations.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Bakheet, has conveyed the thanks of the Sudan’s Government and the people to the government of Southern Sudan for the great role it has been playing in the Sudan peace process, hoping to continue these efforts to include the rest of the parties to the Juba Peace Agreement in Sudan.

The delegation of the Sudan’s special envoy for peace in South Sudan will meet with all parities of the peace process in South Sudan in the coming days, and will also meet with the mechanisms concerned with monitoring and evaluating the agreement and the ceasefire, beside holding meetings with the heads of missions of countries and organizations concerned with the peace process in South Sudan.
