Sudan has called on Bangladesh to contribute to the United Nations Mission for Abyei, “UNISFA”, as part of the alternative to the Ethiopian forces.
Dr. Maryam Al-Sadig Al-Mahdi, on the sidelines of the last visit of the Prime Minister and IGAD President Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk to Juba, met with Mr. Abul Kalam Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and commended Bangladesh’s efforts in UN’s peacekeeping operations during three decades of service and sacrifice.
She expressed hope to transfer the experience and receive training opportunities at its academy in the field of peacekeeping, especially after the UN’s demands Sudan participation in peacekeeping missions as one of the countries working on regional and global stability, pointing to Bangladesh’s successful experiences in development processes and the poor financing.
FM Maryam Al-Sadig reiterated Sudan’s keenness to coordinate with Bangladesh on issues of common concern and exchange expertise and experiences, conveying her greetings to Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
She briefed her Bangladesh counterpart on Sudan’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, and its keenness to implement the revitalized agreement in South Sudan as a guarantor, renewing Sudan’s position in finding a binding agreement formula on the Renaissance Dam in a manner that preserves the rights of all parties.
On his part, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister has expressed confidence in Sudan and its real potential to contribute to conflict resolution and peacekeeping in the region and internationally, pointing to the bilateral relations between the two countries that make them in constant coordination on issues of common concern, stressing his country’s keenness to contain disputes through dialogue and cooperation between all parties, noting to Bangladesh experience in peacekeeping operations and its readiness to share it with Sudan.
The two sides discussed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, and agreed to continue communication and coordination between them.
