Statement on Armed Attack on Police Station in Al-Fasher Issued

The security committee in North Darfur State has expressed its rejection and condemnation to the armed attack staged by individuals belonging to the Sudan Liberation Forces, which took place Friday on the southern Al-Fasher Police Station, and the release of individuals accused in criminal cases.

In a statement, the security committee described the behavior of this group as illegal and vowed to deter anyone who violates the law and try to prevent the police and regular forces from carrying out their duties.

The statement affirmed the continuation of campaigns, the security control and the collection weapons and the fighting drugs.

The statement stated that the attack on the police station occurred at 09:00 a.m. on Friday when some individuals belonging to the forces of the Sudan Liberation Alliance came and asked the policemen to hand over to them the accused persons, and since the legal procedures were not completed against the three accused persons and no letter was brought stating that the accused persons belong to the movement, the call was rejected by the duty officer.

According to the statement, at about 02:00 p.m. on Friday, six combat vehicles came to the Al-Fasher police station, and they forcibly took the three suspects at gunpoint, taking advantage of the small number of police forces in the station.

After that a letter a letter was brought from the movement demanding the handing over of the accused persons.

The statement referred to a visit paid to the police station by the Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, Nimir Mohamed Abdul-Rahman, and the other members of the state’s security committee, who ordered return of the accused persons immediately and putting the force that attacked the police station in custody and holding them accountable.

The accused persons were actually returned to southern Al-Fasher Police Station, and it became clear that one of them was a military member of the Sudan Liberation Forces and the other was an ordinary citizen.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the peace parties denounced what has happened and affirmed that it is an individual act and does not express in any way the orientations and principles of the movement, and promised to deter any of their members who commits illegal acts.
