South Sudan President receives government delegation to Juba peace talks

President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit received at the Presidential Palace in Juba today the delegation of the transitional government to the Sudanese peace talks, headed by Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Gen. Shams-Eddin Kabbashi, in the presence of South Sudanese chief mediator Presidential Adviser Tut Gatluak.

Gatluak said in a press statement that the delegation briefed President Kiir on the progress of the negotiations with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, indicating that although the two parties reached advanced stages in the peace process, but the mediation decided adjournment of the talks to allow the two parties to make further consultations.

He explained that President Kiir reiterated commitment of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to boosting the process of realization of peace and stability in Sudan, affirming importance of return of the two parties to the negotiating table so that war would end for good.

Meanwhile, member of the negotiating delegation of the government of the Sudan, Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Yusif Adam Al-Dhai, said that the direct sessions of negotiations with the delegation of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North have been characterized with prevalence of positive atmosphere, indicating that the two parties reached agreement on about 80% of the framework agreement.

He added that the delegation expressed during the meeting thanks to the government and people of the Republic of South Sudan for sponsoring the peace talks, pointing out that President Kiir reaffirmed commitment of his country to supporting process of realization of peace and stability in Sudan.

The member of the government’s negotiating delegation reaffirmed commitment of the transitional government to pressing ahead with the peace process with an open heart, reiterating commitment of the government to what had been agreed upon in the declaration of principles.
