The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, chaired at the Republican Palace Saturday the emergency sitting of the Security and Defence Council to discuss the security situation in the country, and in particular the latest developments in West and East Darfur States and their implications on the security and humanitarian situation.
In a press statement, the Minister of Defence and spokesman of the council, Gen. Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, said that the Security and Defence Council has heard security reports from the concerned authorities, focusing on the causes and motives that led to the unfortunate events that claimed the lives of dear people of the homeland.
He indicated that the council was informed on size of the human and material losses and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished quick recovery for the injured persons.
He pointed out that the council has taken a number of decisions to ensure that the disputes and incidents do not happen again and do not extend to other places, including:-
First: Formation and sending a joint force of regular forces and all parties of the peace process, which is a flexible force capable of rapid intervention, to maintain security in Darfur.
Second: Reactivating the procedures for collecting weapons and taking the necessary measures to prevent the armed presence in towns.
Third: Expediting the completion of the requirements for implementing the security arrangements of the Juba peace agreement for Sudan.
Fourth: Monitoring the borders to prevent the flow and spread of weapons.
Fifth: Speeding up the preparation of a security force and to deploy it on the ground in the areas of dispute and tension.
Sixth: Accelerating the provision of humanitarian aid to the people affected by the events, and to address the situation of the displaced people.
Seventh: Enhancing the health capabilities and providing the urgent requirements in West Darfur State.
Eighth: Referring the involved persons and perpetrators, after investigations, to justice and immediate trials.
At the conclusion of its meeting, the Security and Defence Council stressed that the safety and security of the citizen is of the highest priority for the government of the transitional period.
