President of Transitional Sovereignty Council Meets Head of UNITAMS

Khartoum,  (SUNA)-The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council(TSC), Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Tuesday in the Republican Palace the Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission  in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes,

Perthes  described  in a press statement  the meeting as positive and constructive  and that it tackled a host of outstanding issues in addition  to developments of current situation in the wake of the foiled coup which took place recently.

He  added that it was agreed on the need to focus on transitional tasks and progress in the transitional path through cooperation and dialogue between all parties and components, including the military and civilian  components and the armed struggle movements to accomplish the tasks of the transitional period in the country.

Volcker Perthes praised the great progress made in Sudan during the past two years, pointing to tangible progress in the transitional path towards democracy, peace, stability and justice, expressing his hope that this consensus that led  to progress in this path would not be lost.

He  said, “The United Nations office in Sudan aims to assist the Sudanese people and all components to achieve the political transition, support peace and  negotiations, implement the Juba Agreement for peace in Sudan, and work to build and consolidate peace in the areas affected by the war,  solicit foreign  aid and resources to support and accomplish the mission’s mission,” noting that this depends, to a large extent, on the consensus and participation between the Sudanese parties.
