Minister of Industry issues a decision banning sugar monopoly

The Minister of Industry and Trade Madani Abbas Madani has issued a decision Tuesday banning the monopoly of sugar commodity based on the Article (5) of the Competition and Anti-Monopoly Law of the year 2009, where the decision stipulated the prohibition of monopoly or storage of sugar commodity to control its price or its distribution. The decision also stipulated that, taking into account any provisions or orders in any other law, anyone who violates the above decision shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years, or with a fine, or with both, along with the confiscation of sugar. The decision indicated that any worker or employee, who exploits his authority in a manner that does not comply with the provisions of this law and the decision, shall be subject to the legal and administrative accountability. For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Mohamed Ali Abdallah asserted that any transgression would be met by the application of the decision with the necessary firmness and rigor.
