Minister congratulates journalists on World Press Freedom Day

Minister of Culture and Information Hamzah Balloul, has congratulated journalists and media professionals in the country on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, May 3, which is observed this year under the theme  “Information is a public good.”

The minister commended in a statement he issued today the efforts of journalists and media professionals in promoting citizenship, disseminating culture of peace, rejecting violence and consolidating democracy and justice.

The minister lauded commitment that has been shown by journalists to the issues of the homeland and the five priorities of the transitional government that are represented in: building peace, democracy, foreign relations, security besides the economic and social axes.

The statement said that the theme of this year’s World Press Freedom Day was “Information as a Public Good” serves as a call to affirm the important role assumed by the media in combating COVID-19 pandemic.
