Japan provides US$2.72m grant for food project in Sudan

Sudan and Japan signed, today at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Premises in Khartoum a grant of US$2.72m provided by Japan as food assistance for Sudan.

The Minister of Finance and Economic planning Dr. Gibril Ibrahim signed for Sudan, while the Japanese Ambassador to Sudan signed for his country.

Dr. Ibrahim hailed the great efforts exerted by the Japanese government for providing the humanitarian aid to Sudan.

The Minister stated that the Japanese government implemented a number of major projects in Sudan in the field of water and health services, affirming keenness of Sudan to benefit from the Japanese experience in agriculture.

The Japanese ambassador, on his prt, described the Sudanese –Japanese relations as excellent, assuring that his government provides assistance to Sudan due to continuous population growth and shortage of food resulting from climate change.

The ambassador said the world is now hopes that Sudan would become a giant agricultural country in the region.
