The Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Prof. Yasser Abbas, received in his office on Saturday the visiting US special envoy for the Horn of Africa, Jeffrey Feltman.
The meeting was attended by the Sudanese team for the negotiations on the Renaissance Dam.
At the meeting, the Sudanese side presented a detailed presentation on Sudan visions and positions on the Renaissance Dam and the reasons for Sudan insistance on the necessity of a binding legal agreement on the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam in a way that avoids its confirmed and expected risks to the safety of operating the Sudanese water establishments and the negative economic, social and environmental impacts on Sudan.
The US envoy affirmed his country’s keenness to support a serious and fruitful negotiation process between the three parties, which takes into account their interests.
It is to be noted that that the American envoy also met the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, the Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdouk, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi.
The US envoy is due to leave today (Saturday) to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
