Khartoum, (SUNA) – The International Labor Organization has announced last Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the Sudan’s accession to Protocol No. 29 on forced labor, as the world’s 50th country to join the protocol.
The documents will be signed at the ceremony by the Director-General of the ILO and the permanent representative of Sudan in Geneva, Ambassador Ali Ibn Abi Talib Abdul-Rahman.
It is worth noting that the protocol aims to eliminate all forms of contemporary slavery, and the member states of the organization adopted this protocol in the annual conference in Geneva, 2014 , while the Sudan’s accession coincides with the 50 Freedom Campaign, which was launched by the organization in 2014.
the director general of the ILO, Guy Ryder noted: “Today we have reached a major milestone, a future free from forced labor, human trafficking, child labor and contemporary slavery, and it is a future that we must form together” , meanwhile a celebration will be held on Friday the 26th, March, in Geneva to formally deposit Sudan’s accession documents to the Freedom of Association Agreement No. 87, and the Tripartite Consultation Agreement No. 144 (governments, employers and workers), in addition to the Forced Labor Protocol No. 29
