ICC Demands Handing over of Ahmed Haroun before the End of July

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, stressed the importance of handing over the accused, Ahmed Haroun, to the International Criminal Court before the end of next July so that he can be tried along with the accused, Ali Kashia.

Bensouda revealed at a press conference held at the Ministry of Justice Wednesday that a team of investigators of the International Criminal Court will arrive in Sudan in the coming period to collect more evidence on the ground.

Bensouda indicated that she arrived in Sudan for the second time to visit the victims in North, South and West Darfur, adding that she felt the victims’ longing to see justice served.

She asked the victims to communicate and cooperate with the investigators who will arrive in Sudan during the coming period, stating that the best evidence to be collected is the one that is collected from the ground,

She stressed the necessity of protection for the witnesses who testify to the court.

She said that throughout her visit to the victims in Darfur, she felt that their main demand for handing over the wanted persons to the International Criminal Court, affirming that this matter represents one of the tasks for which she arrived in Sudan.

Bensouda pointed out that she met the officials in Sudan and called on them to hand over the wanted persons to the ICC, explaining that she did not receive any objection in this regard.

She justified the start by the handing over of the accused Ahmed Haroun because he was accused of the same charges directed to Kosheib.
