The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, has stressed the importance of reaching a binding agreement regarding the Renaissance Dam that allows for better planning for the agricultural development and production.
Interviewed by CNN channel, Dr. Hamdouk said that “without reaching an agreement, we will always be under the mercy of Ethiopia to give us water today and to deny us whenever it wants, so we demand a binding agreement within the framework of international law.”
He pointed out that the issues related to the Renaissance Dam are very serious and sensitive, indicating that they are relating to the security and safety of millions in Sudan and Egypt, indicating that the issues related to the Renaissance Dam can be solved within weeks in accordance with International Law.
The Prime Minister indicated that Sudan has suggested transferring the role of the observers into mediators to help achieving a binding agreement on the dam.
He stated that the issue of the joint border with Ethiopia has been resolved since 1902 by the agreement on the demarcation of the borders on the map and on the ground, stressing that the successive Ethiopian governments have recognized these borders.
