Khartoum, (SUNA) – The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, has affirmed the transitional government keenness to continue implementing the programs leading to the democratic transition, the rule of law and enhancing human rights, in addition to addressing the structural distortions inherited in the structure of the Sudanese economy.
While presenting Sudan statement for discussion at the UN General Assembly, Dr. Hamdouk stressed the government commitment to implement the programs and policies conducive to establishing the Sudan of security, peace and prosperity and the country in which the citizens are enjoying freedom and justice.
He said that the implementation of reforms has affected the vulnerable segments of society, adding that therefore the government has launched programs aimed to providing social protection by supporting the vulnerable segments, with the help of the regional and international partners.
With regard to the protection of civilians and the promotion of human rights and the rule of law, the Prime Minister indicated that efforts are continuing to carry out institutional and legal reforms, strengthen the human rights frameworks and to achieve justice. Indicating that the government has established the National Human Rights Mechanism to operate in line with regional and international charters and convention, we have established the National Human Rights Mechanism.
He said that the government has ratified the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and the United Nations Convention against Torture
Dr. Hamdouk pointed out that the government is determined to continue working to improve the security situation in Darfur through the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement for Peace in Sudan, the collection of arms, the achievement of justice and accountability, and the implementation of the National Plan for the Protection of Civilians with the participation of the parties to the Juba Peace Agreement.
He stated that the government has pursued a foreign policy which is based on mutual respect and cooperation, with a key objective to achieve the supreme interest of Sudan and to uphold the values of good neighborliness and regional cooperation, in compliance with the principles of the glorious peaceful revolution and the constitutional document.
The Prime Minister expressed Sudan appreciation of the role of the United Nations, its humanitarian agencies, all international organizations and the donor community in supporting the government of the revolution in its efforts to address the conditions of the displaced persons, refugees and the returnees to their places of origin and to extend humanitarian aid for those affected in the dispute-hit areas.
Dr. Hamdouk renewed Sudan position of rejection to any unilateral measure regarding the Renaissance Dam, and stressed the need to reach a binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam, in order to prevent the country from any the potential damage that threatens the means of livelihood of half the population of Sudan, the safety of Sudan dams, the irrigation of agricultural projects and the drinking water stations, as well as the social, economic and environmental impacts along the Blue Nile and the Nile River.
He said that the transition process in Sudan is still facing a number of major challenges, which require the continued support of the international community and friends to complete the government plans to reform the economic conditions that the country is going through, top of which is the writing off of all Sudan debts and obtaining soft loans, in addition to the fulfillment of the pledges declared by the partners during the Sudan Partners Conference in Berlin last year, and the Paris Conference for Support to Sudan in the current year, I addition to dropping the remaining procedural restrictions after the removal of Sudan from the list of states sponsoring of terrorism so that Sudan can complete its return to the international community after a coercive absence that lasted for three decades.
The Prime Minister has affirmed the commitment of the government of Sudan to provide the necessary facilities and cooperation with the United Nations Integrated Transitions Mission I Sudan (UNITAMS) to support its objectives, commending the positive spirit in which UNITAMS is dealing and called upon it to exert more effort to implement its mandate to assist the government of Sudan to achieve the democratic transition process in accordance with the terms of reference and axes of Resolution 2425 establishing to its mandate
