The Walis (governors) of the Blue Nile and North and West Darfur States were sworn in Monday before the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, and in the presence of the Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, the acting Chief Justice, Abdul-Aziz Fattahal-Rahman, and the Governor of Darfur Region, Menni Arko Mennawi.
In a press statement after the oath taking, the Wali (governor) of the Blue Nile, Ahmed Al-Umdah, said that the Blue Nile State has suffered a lot from the scourge of war, expressing his hope that the Juba Agreement for Peace in Sudan will create an attractive environment for a decent life for the people of the state.
He said that his priorities for the coming stage are the building of self-governing institutions, implementing the peace agreement, working for the return of the displaced people and refugees to their home areas, as well as leading a comprehensive reconciliation for all the Blue Nile citizens and alleviating the living conditions for the state’s citizens.
The Wali (governor) of North Darfur, Khamis Abdalla Abbakar, said that that his government will focus its priorities during the coming period on achieving security and stability, extending the prestige of the state, strengthening the community peace and spreading a culture of peace, in addition to protecting the agricultural season and working to return the displaced and refugees to their villages after providing security for their areas, in addition to improving people’s livelihood.
He called on all the citizens of West Darfur State to renounce racism and hate speech in order to build a single Sudan that accommodates everyone.
The Wali of North Darfur, Nimr Abdul-Rahman, stressed that his government’s priorities are to build a secure and stable state by patching up the rift in the social fabric and making reconciliations between the social components, in addition to giving women valuable opportunities to build their capabilities as they are the backbone of society.
