New York, (SUNA) – The Sudanese government and the United Nations signed at the UN’s headquarters in New York a framework for joint cooperation aimed at eliminating sexual violence related to the conflict in Sudan, as part of the efforts made by the transitional government to promote and strengthen the human rights’ situations.
Ambassador Omer Mohamed Ahmed Seddig, the Permanent Representative of the Sudan to the UN in New York has signed for the Sudanese government, and Ms. Pramila Patten, the representative of the UN Secretary-General for sexual violence related to the conflict signed for the United Nations.
the signing ceremony held at the headquarters of the international organization in New York on Tuesday, comes in response to the provisions of article 49(1) of the constitutional document related to the protection of women’s rights, in addition to article 68 (3) of the Constitutional Document which is concerned with the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325 on women and peace and security.
The terms of the cooperation framework includes coordination between the two sides to strengthen preventive measures, the response programs for the sexual violence cases of in conflict-affected areas, in addition This is in addition to supporting the national and local policies, and the related legal frameworks, the strengthening of the national health , justice and security organs, and enhancing their capabilities to play their role in providing protection and justice to the victims.
It is worth mentioning that the Special Representative will visit Sudan in the middle of next April accompanied by a technical delegation to discuss ways to implement the framework of joint cooperation in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Violence Against Women Unit and the relevant state’s bodies
