A meeting of the leaders of the Forces of Freedom and Change, the peace parties and the Civil Society was held on Saturday at the Friendship Hall and discussed the events in Genaina city, the capital of West Darfur State and the security situation in the country.
The meeting was aimed to review the Developments and repercussions of the dispute in Genaina and the deterioration of security, in order to map out urgent measures to halt the violence and fighting, preserve security, protect the citizens, provide humanitarian and relief aid and form a public opinion in favor of the peace and coexistence speech as an alternative to speech of hate and violence.
After a responsible and extensive discussion and the exchange of updated information about the reality of the situation in West Darfur and the country in general, the meeting decided the following:-
First: It is important that the state shall live up to its role in stopping the fighting, maintaining security, and helping the affected persons through the following measures:
– Reactivating the state of emergency in West Darfur and authorizing the regular forces to preserve the lives and properties of the citizens in accordance with the law and to enable them to perform their duties to protect civilians.
– Implementing security arrangements in accordance with the peace agreement, forming joint forces to protect civilians and establishing a single professional national army.
– Providing relief and humanitarian aid to face the catastrophic humanitarian situation.
– Completing the formation of the transitional power structures to boost peace, development and stability.
– Supporting the efforts of the government of West Darfur State to enhance security, stability and the peaceful coexistence between the components of society.
-The national government shall give a special concern to West Darfur State and to enable it to carry out its tasks and to provide the necessary humanitarian aid, development and services support and to increase the security forces in the state.
– Urgent intervention to shelter and protect the displaced persons and those who were displaced by the dispute.
– Reactivating the justice system, including the Judiciary and prosecution offices to accelerate the pursuing of criminals and violators of law and hold them accountable.
Second: – The call on the political parties, the civil, professional, native administration and religious forces, the resistance committees, the private sector and universities to shoulder their responsibilities and play their role in preserving the cohesion of the social fabric by upholding the values of Sudanese patriotism and the community solidarity by providing humanitarian, material, food and medicine aid and everything that is helpful to achieve security, safety and stability.
Third: – We strongly condemn the violence and the targeting and displacement of defenseless civilians, and we call on our people in West Darfur (Genaina) to stick to the values of tolerance, acceptance of the others and coexistence, and abort the plots of those who instigate sedition.
Fourth: – Reactivating the role of the media to establish a public opinion in favor of the peaceful coexistence, providing facts and correct information, denuding rumors and rejecting speech of hate.
Fifth: – Agreement was reached that these meetings shall continue between the components of the political transitional government toward achieving the unity of the forces of revolution and change.
Finally:- The incidents in Genaina are part of a series of local and external conspiracies targeting the December revolution, the peace process and the unity of the country, and it requires confrontation from all forces of revolution and change together, and therefore all parties must work in a united front to complete the goals of the revolution.
