Foreign Minister Receives British Charge d’Affaires to Sudan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, received in her office Wednesday the Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Britain to Khartoum and the special envoy of Britain to the Horn of Africa, Julian Riley.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the cooperation between Sudan and the United Kingdom in various fields, especially investment and the arrangements for the strategic dialogue between the two friendly countries, scheduled to be held next June in Khartoum.

The minister reviewed Sudan efforts, in its capacity as head of IGAD, in maintaining security and stability in the neighboring countries and the region, as well as Sudan call for a ministerial meeting of the IGAD countries to discuss developments in the situations in Somalia, Chad and the Central African Republic.

She also explained Sudan position on the developments on the Renaissance Dam negotiations under the obstinacy at the Ethiopian side. On his part, the British Chargé d’Affaires has welcomed Sudan ratification of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women CEDAW, and congratulated Sudan on its winning to the position of the Deputy Chairperson of the Arab Human Rights Charter’s Committee. He reiterated the United Kingdom’s commitment to support the government of Sudan in implementing the goals of the transitional period. MO
