Foreign Minister Receives Ambassador of Finland

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, Wednesday received the non-resident Ambassador of Finland to Sudan, Laura Kansikas-Debraise, on the occasion of the expiry of her assignment to Sudan.

The Finnish Ambassador thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the cooperation and hospitality she found during her work and her visits to Sudan, expressing her gratitude for working in Sudan during this historical period which is witnessing a great transformation.

The minister gave a full briefing at the meeting on the efforts of the transitional government to implement its priorities in terms of peace and economic reform, as well as Sudan role in bringing peace and stability to the region and the neighboring countries in its capacity as IGAD President.

The two sides also discussed the situation of refugees in eastern Sudan and the need for support from the partners in the international community to improve the refugees’ conditions.

Dr. Mariam has praised the efforts of the ambassador in strengthening the relations between Sudan and Finland and wished her success in her future tasks.
