The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Maryam Al-Sadig, met yesterday the Nigerian Minister of the Presidency, Professor Ibrahim Qambari, in the capital Abuja, and discussed with him overall issues of concern to the two countries and the joint efforts for the stability and peace in the region.
Dr. Maryam Al-Sadig, asserted during the meeting strength and depth of the Sudanese-Nigerian relations, indicating that the transitional government’s strategy is based on openness towards the world and the priority of partnership with the countries of the African continent.
She renewed Sudan’s commitment to continue working for the development of the Sudanese-Nigerian relations, the preservation of the historical ties between the two countries, giving a detailed explanation for the Renaissance Dam crisis and its developments, and the Sudan’s steadfast position in cooperation for reaching a win-win agreement to realize the interests of all parties.
Dr. Maryam Al-Sadig, indicated that the Sudan welcomes all initiatives to find a peaceful diplomatic solution, pointing out that the prime minister, the head of IGAD is seeking to reduce tensions during this session to bring peace and stability to the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Maryam Al-Sadig, has stressed the importance of cooperation in the security file, and the combating of extremism, violence and transcontinental crime.
On his part, the Nigerian Minister welcomed the Foreign Minister’s delegation visit, underlining the depth of bilateral relations, which require the activation and enhancing of joint agreements through communication and cooperation between the two countries, stressing his country’s understanding of Sudan’s advanced position in the Renaissance Dam, indicating that his country views water issues as one of the opportunities for strengthen relations between peoples and states, asserting keenness of Nigerian President Buhari to visit Sudan and consolidate Nigerian-Sudanese relations, extending an invitation to Prime Minister, Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk to visit Nigeria.
The meeting has agreed on the enhancement of the bilateral partnership, activate joint agreements, and support the efforts of the African Union to reach an agreement for addressing concerns, security cooperation in combating crimes and terrorism.
