EU Ambassador: Sudan Security Important for European Union

The head of the European Union mission in Sudan, Ambassador Robert Van Den Dool, affirmed that Sudan security is very important for the European Union because of its direct impact on the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, Central, South and North Africa and the Middle East, adding that the security of all these regions reflects directly and indirectly on the security and safety of the 27 countries of the European Union.

During a visit paid by the ambassadors of the European Union in Sudan to the Nemeiri Higher Military Academy in Omdurman on Wednesday, Dool said that they are concerned with the level and content of the education given at Nemeiri Higher Military Academy as well as the ongoing educational transition to include the human rights and the International and Humanitarian Law.

Ambassador Dool has appreciated the role of the academy in the protection of civilians, safety and security and providing a good level of education for its civilian and military learners from Sudan and other countries at the region as well as the researchers in the security studies field.

He affirmed that the European Union will continue to support the democratic transition in Sudan, a matter that necessitates cooperation and solidarity between all the civilian, military and struggle movements partners in the transitional period.

On his part, the Director of the academy, Maj. Gen. Izz-Eddin Osman, stated that the academy is in the process to enhance its educational system in the coming stage for military and civilian learners to include the combat of terrorism, human trafficking and smuggling and the resolution of disputes and the peace keeping.

The ambassadors of the European Union countries were informed on the role and programs of the academy and met with the Sudanese ane foreign learners at the academy.
