Dr Mariam: Sudan’s Position Towards GERD Receives National , Regional and International Consensus

Foreign Minister, Dr Mariam Al Sadiq Al Mahdi, underscored that Sudan  was  looking  forward  to reaching a legal binding  agreement  over filling and operation  before the second filling of the Renaissance Dam.

The Minister  disclosed  that that Sudanese vision  has received   wide national consensus  among  components  of the transitional  government , Sudanese people  and regional  and international under standing  for reasonable and  objectivity of the Sudan’s vision.

This  came during the Symposium  of the Graduates  of the American University  in Cairo –Jordan  which hosted the Minister virtually Saturday  .

The Minister said that Sudan is  ready for negotiation  for solving the issue   by peaceful means  and under auspices  of the African Union , renewing welcome  to role of the international partners  and guarantors  and facilitators .

She indicated  to possibility of make use of international and African experiences  in dealing with the trans-national  rivers .

Dr Mariam  stated that  the United States  has played important role  in the mediation  that solved the technical and legal matters  and that  Washington negotiation  made progress  and that few points  pertinent  to  filling and operation remained , pointing out that  the surprise was  Ethiopia retreated  from  what  was agreed upon.

The Minister indicated to the huge and expected role that  could be played  by the United States by exercising  political and diplomatic pressure over Ethiopia  .

She underlined that  Sudan has responded to  AU initiative as affirmation to its seriousness  and finding African  solutions txo African issues.
