Dr. Hamdouk Lauds Role of South Sudan Mediation for Completing Peace in Sudan

The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdouk, has lauded the role of the mediation of the Republic of South Sudan in completing the comprehensive peace process in the country.

This came when Dr. Dr. Hamdouk received on Wednesday the delegation of South Sudan mediation, led by its rapporteur Dr. Dhio Mattok.

In a press statement after the meeting, Dr. Mattok said that they informed the Prime Minister on the efforts of the mediation in Juba to communicate with the SPLM-N, announcing the resumption of dialogue between the government and the SPLM-North, led by commander Abdul-Aziz Al-Hillu, on May 24th.

He said that added that the mediation also met with Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nour in Juba, referring to his desire to contribute to achieving peace.

He said that the meeting also touched on the issue of completing the government institutions, including the establishment of the Legislative Assembly and appointment of the walis (governors)

Mattok explained that the purpose of their visit to the country is to sit down with the parties of the peace process in the framework of implementing the Juba peace agreement for Sudan, pointing out that the mediation delegation discussed a number of issues, the most outstanding of which was the East Sudan file.

He said that there are great understandings between all components of east Sudan, calling on all parties to solve all problems on the East track.

He stated that the negotiation delegation discussed during the visit the issue of the North and the Central Tracks regarding the division of wealth, announcing that the delegation had made contacts in this direction to address the issue of a fair division of wealth for the two tracks, and that they discussed the issue with leaders of the transitional government and the negotiating delegation for the two tracks and the competent committee for this issue, indicating they came up with ideas and opinions that will contribute to addressing the disputed issues.

The rapporteur of South Sudan mediation said that their visit to the country has discussed ways to address the obstacles related to the file of the security arrangements and their implementation, stressing that there were some violations in this file regarding the entry of forces into capitals and cities, a matter which contradicts what was agreed upon in the Juba peace agreement.
