Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris, Wednesday received at the Republican Palace a delegation of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), chaired by the head of the mission, Volker Perthes.
The member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council has given an extensive briefing to the delegation on the stages for implementation of the Sudan peace agreement which was signed in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, as well as the reality of the situation in Darfur states and other states on the background of his recent visits to a number of states.
He pointed to the enthusiasm and welcome of the citizens of the Northern and Nahral-Neil states to the peace agreement.
Dr. Idris assured UNTAMS mission’s delegation on the full harmony between the peace partners and the components of the transitional government, explaining that work to complete the transitional authority structures is being carried out seriously, especially regarding the appointment of Walis (governors) and formation of the Legislative Assembly.
The member of the Sovereignty Council has stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between government institutions and UNITAMS mission in all fields.
On his part, the head of the mission, Volker Perthes, provided the member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council with a comprehensive briefing on the tasks of UNITAMS in the country.
He affirmed the mission’s commitment to providing the required assistance to the transitional government to complete the tasks of the political transition and to assist in building capacities to support Sudan in the sustaining peace.
Perthes praised the step to form a government of peace, calling on the government to complete the transitional power structures by forming the Legislative Assembly.
He affirmed the mission’s support to the Declaration of Principles that the government recently signed with the SPLM-North led by Abdul-Aziz Al-Hillo, indicating that this declaration will represent a strong impetus to completing peace process in Sudan.
