Dismantling Committee Takes Legal Measures against Elements of Ousted Regime

The committee for dismantling of the June 30, 1989 regime and ecovering of public money has issued a press statement on the group Ramadan Iftar held by elements of the ousted regime at the Freedom Square on Friday, April 16, 2021.

The statement explained that a number of the ousted regime’s elements organized a Ramadan Iftar gathering at Freedom Square on Friday, the fourth day of Ramadan, corresponding to April 16, 2021, and broadcast video clips via social media that revealed that this Ramadan Iftar was not of a social nature, but rather a front for political activity for members of the dissolved National Congress Party, which is considered an activity violating the provisions of Articles 4 (1) and (2) of the Act on Dismantling the Regime of the June 30th 1989 and Recovering Public Money for the Year 2019, Amendment 2020.

The committee stated in the press statement that it started taking legal measures against the group participating in this illegal act upon the publication of these clips, and accordingly the necessary legal measures were taken to arrest the participants, and then a joint force of the police, the security and other regular forces, moved to the location of that group at the Freedom Square, and enforced arrest procedures against the participants in the Iftar gathering, most of them have fled the scene, while a number of them were arrested and legal measures were taken against them.

The committee disclosed that one of the arrested persons is an officer with the rank of major in the Medical Corps, and two officers of the General Intelligence Service, in addition to a police officer, indicating that these regular forces elements were handed over to the Military Intelligence and Security Police, besides arrest of the person who filmed the video of that event and posted it on the social media, who appeared to be an employee of the Photography Department in the Friendship Hall.

The committee stated that the preliminary investigations led to the identification of many of the participants who had not been arrested, and providing other information related to the organizers and supporters of this group Iftar, adding that these persons will be pursued for arrest and legal measures will be taken against them.
