Committee for Investigation in Missing Persons Announces Discovery of Mass Graves

Khartoum(SUNA) – The committee for investigation in disappearance of missing persons, which was formed by the Attorney General, has announced in a press statement Wednesday, a copy of which was received by SUNA, that it was able to find mass graves of missing people, stating that the committee suggested that these mass graves contain the bodies of missing persons who were killed and buried in a manner incompatible with the human dignity.

The committee affirmed that it will do all the necessary measures to complete the exhumation and re-autopsy procedures after the site has been secured and the necessary guard placed on it to prevent approaching in the area until the procedures are completed and a directive by the competent authorities to take all the necessary measures is issued.

The committee stated that it has visited and checked all the morgues and investigated with their departments, adding that the investigation committee will proceeded with its work in accordance with the judicial regulation issued by the Attorney General, which requires obtaining the DNA and the cause of death and the reasons that led to the mass burials.

The investigation committee of the Public Prosecution has affirmed the continuation of its investigations about the disappearance and forcible missing of persons since the events of the December – April revolution, in full transparency to provide the facts to the Sudanese people, based on the principle of non-impunity.

The committee has appealed to all organs and families of the missing persons to cooperate with it for completing the investigations.
