Attorney General meets Ambassador of EU to Khartoum

Khartoum, Mar. 4 (SUNA) – Attorney General Maulana Taj Al-Sir Ali Al-Hibr met, Wednesday at his office with the European Union ambassador to Khartoum, Robert Van Dan Dool.

The Attorney General briefed the ambassador on the specialized tasks of the Public Prosecution and the committees that were formed, the meeting also discussed a number of files related to the work of the Public Prosecution.

The Attorney General indicated that a number of committees have been formed in regard of the violations committed during the previous period in addition to the tasks assigned to the public prosecutors other organs for the investigations in the complaints filed in those prosecutions’ offices, noting in this regard to the completion of a number of those cases which will be shortly referred to the relevant courts.

The Public Prosecutor pointed out to the many challenges currently facing the work of the Public Prosecution, on top of these challenges the crimes of murder, anti-corruption cases, the human trafficking, money laundering and human rights violations.

He indicated that intends to restructure its offices to be able to face these challenges while waiting for the establishment of the commissions of the Transitional Justice and the Law Reform Commission, on which relies the amendment of some of the laws related to the criminal work.

On the other hand, the Attorney General pointed to the arrest of a number of perpetrators in Al- Genina incidents were the accused will be sent for trial.

Regarding the detained leaders of the past regime, the Public Prosecutor indicated that the prosecution does not arrest any person unless there is initial evidence against him, stressing that all detainees face accusations in various cases that are under investigation.
