Ambassadors of European Countries Meet with North Darfur State Government

Al-Fasher,  (SUNA) – A delegation of ambassadors of the European Union donor countries, which included the ambassadors of Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), visited North Darfur State Monday and held a meeting from the state government headed by the Secretary-General of the state’s government and representative of the Wali (governor), Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul-Karim, and got informed on the matrix of the peace building, development and social stability project prepared by the state government.

Abdul-Karim reviewed in his briefing to the delegation the project’s service and development axes, which he said represent the real necessity of the state in the fields of reconstruction and peace building, noting that the project includes the rehabilitation of thousands of villages destroyed by the war and providing them with services to resettle the refugees and displaced people, as well as promoting social peace with further reconciliation, improving the water and health services, enhancing livelihoods, and supporting production by constructing inter-state roads.

He stressed that the implementation of these projects is beyond the government’s capabilities at the federal and state levels.

He praised the efforts undertaken by international organizations and agencies towards the citizens of the state during the past period, especially regarding the projects that were implemented through the Darfur Reconstruction and Development Fund, which is funded by the Group of Three.
He announced the re-opening of the state’s doors to organizations that had been deported through decision of the previous government.

The representative of the Wali (governor) has affirmed at the start of the meetings the stability of the security and humanitarian conditions in North Darfur State, referring to the commitment of the state government to continue facilitating the work of the international organizations so as to continue playing their humanitarian role.
Meanwhile, the general directors of the ministries in the state reviewed the detailed plans of the projects included in the matrix of peace building and social stability project matrix prepared by the state government.

For his part, the head of the delegation and Norway Ambassador stated that their visit to the state of North Darfur is aimed to be informed the Darfur project for stability, peace and development that was implemented through the concerned fund in some areas of the state, besides identifying the state’s needs in the areas of development, services and social peace building.

He affirmed seriousness of the international community to support the peace and stability march in Darfur through the donors and to establish more service and development projects for the people of the state through the Darfur Fund for Stability and Development.

The visit program of the delegation of the European Union ambassadors to North Darfur State will continue until Tuesday, where they will visit the Abu Sikeen area, a rural area of El Fasher city to stand on the social peace building projects implemented by the Darfur Peace and Stability Fund in the past period.
