Al-Ta’ayeshi Meets Delegation of Women Agenda for Next Negotiation Track

Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Mohamed Hassan Al-Ta’ayeshi, met at the Republican Palace Saturday a delegation of the women agenda for the next negotiation process in Juba, towards enhancing the participation of women in the upcoming peace negotiations.

A representative of the initiative, Nadia Muhammad Ali, explained that the meeting was an opportunity to clarify the contents of the initiative, which was agreed upon by women from various organizations, political parties and civil society organizations, officials of women affairs in the states and women representing the displaced people camps and marginal areas, adding that this initiative has found support from the different women sectors.

She noted that the initiative was implemented by the Institute for Development Research at the University of Khartoum, which has supervised the workshops that preceded the agreement on the women’s agenda, with direct support from the United Nations Women’s Office in Khartoum.

Nadia added that this agenda is the first agreed upon feminist agenda from the various sectors of the feminist community in Sudan, and explaining that it includes the demands of women at the negotiating table regarding the problems and issues of displaced and refugee women and those who have been subjected to sexual abuse and oppression.

She said that the member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council has affirmed his commitment to support the initiative and to discuss it with officials in the peace file, indicating that Al-Ta’ayeshi held political organizations and parties responsible for not enabling women to participate in political life effectively, especially that the constitutional document gave 40% women  political participation.
