Al-Hadi Idris and Hajar Meet ICC Prosecutor General

Members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris and Al-Tahir Hajar, received, separately, the visiting Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Asad Ahmad Khan.

In a press statement, Khan said that as an official of the ICC and in accordance with the mandate given to him by the UN Security Council to conduct independent investigations into the events that occurred in Darfur.

He said that there are arrest warrants, and that it is his responsibility and the office that he leads to review the evidence and to make an assessment of the adequacy of this evidence, noting that this requires the cooperation and assistance of the Sudanese, whether in Darfur or Khartoum, regarding all the crimes that have been committed, represented in mass murder, crimes against humanity and other crimes.

Khan cited the meanings of the Holy Qur’an in the prohibition of killing of man, which is equal to the killing of all people, and said, “If you are a Muslim, you must tell the truth even if it is against your family,” expressing his happiness to be a Muslim in Sudan, whose people are considered Muslims.

The Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court indicated that he seeks the cooperation of anyone who obtains information about the events in Darfur, and the arrest warrants issued, to contact his office, affirming his keenness to cooperate with the Sudanese government and demanded commitment to move forward in the tasks in the cases they are concerned with.

Khan expressed his thanks for the warm reception and cooperation that his predecessor, the former Prosecutor General, found from Sudan government, announcing that he will visit Sudan in next November and he will visit Darfur and will submit a report to the UN Security Council in next December on the positive progress achieved.

He affirmed his keenness to accomplish his mission to achieve the expectations of the international community, especially with regard to Security Council resolutions to realize justice towards the heroes of Darfur, the victims and the survivors who are hungry to achieve justice and to hold accountable those who committed crimes in Darfur, noting that he looks forward to the cooperation and assistance of the Sudanese and the government
