Al-Burhan and Perthes Discuss Efforts to Support Democratic Transition in Sudan

Khartoum,   (SUNA) – The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, has praised the role being played by the United Nations in supporting the political transition and achieving comprehensive peace and stability in the country.

Gen. Al-Burhan discussed during his meeting in his office Sunday with the head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, the coordination of efforts between the Sudanese government and the UN mission for success of the transitional period and the democratic transition.

In a press statement, Perthes said that the meeting has reviewed the implementation of the security arrangements according to the Juba peace agreement as well as the development services.

He indicated that the meeting also discussed the coordination between Sudan government and the donor countries for support to the transitional government.

Perthes said that the meeting discussed all the issues of mutual concern between Sudan and UN mission before his departure next week to New York to inform the Security Council about UNITAMS work, describing his meeting with the President of the Transitional Council as frank and fruitful
