Khartoum, (SUNA) – The Special Criminal Court for the trial of former President Omar al-Bashir, on Saturday, sentenced him to two years imprisonment for the Social Reform Foundation for exceeding the age of seventy years and confiscated the foreign and local funds in favor of the government of Sudan.
The ruling was read out by the judge, Maulana Al-SadiqAl-Amin Al-Faki, in the presence of the accusation and defense bodies, in which the defendant convicted under Article 21 of the Criminal Law of 1991 , amended 2015 and Articles 5 and 9 of the Foreign Exchange Dealing Law in addition to Articles 6 and 7 of Illegal Wealth Act.
The Judge has indicated that most of the defense witnesses stressed that what the accused did is contrary to the law.
He asserted that the immunity mentioned by the defense does not benefit the accused, except in case, he is in power.
The court convicted the defendant, Omar Al-Bashir, for all the charges brought against him by the Public Prosecution.
The judge asked the head of the defense committee, Hashem Abu Bakr al-Ali, if they had reduced grounds for judgment, and al-Jali went in turn, to the deposed president, who assured him that he was an officer in the armed forces and reached the highest ranks in it, and he did not, and will not, request a commutation of the sentence.
