Workshop on African Continental Free Trade Area held

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Supply Nader Al-Rayah has affirmed Sudan’s capability to export manufactured goods instead of raw materials, especially since it owns big resources that qualify it to enter the international market.

Al-Rayah was addressing a workshop on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), organized by the Ministry of Trade and Supply in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, today at Corinthia Hotel in Khartoum.

The expert of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Waleed El-Zomor, on his part, explained that the workshop deals with the issue of value chains and how Sudanese industries benefit from access to African markets, in addition to maximizing the added value of Sudanese exports, whether at the regional or continental level, and integrating all this with industrial and investment policies.

Meanwhile, Ms. Manal Siddik, who is responsible for the African Continental Free Trade Area file at the Ministry of Trade and Supply, said that the workshop is concerned with helping Sudan to ratify the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.

The workshop also targets a number of various topics related to the agreement, including competition policy, investment policy and value chains.
