Sudan marks International Day of Small Industries

Sudan marks  the International Day of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in a celebration that is to be held at the Friendship Hall here tomorrow, Wednesday, in the presence of the Minister of Industry.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry Engineer Ismail Shams-Eddin Al-Shafie, speaking at SUNA Press Forum today, affirmed the important role of small industries in providing the basic needs of the people, innovations and creating employment opportunities for young people, who constitute 90% of the industrial sector.

He pointed out that the state is keen on boosting small industries to be a driving power for the change through its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Director of Small and Handicraft Industries Department at the ministry Suad Yusuf Al-Balaa, on her part, announced the ministry’s plan to establish five industrial complexes, including dairy products in North Kordofan State, fish in the White Nile State, River Nile State, food (vegetables and fruits), Gedarif State, agricultural equipment, South Darfur State, leather products, and entrepreneurship in the field of food industries.

Meanwhile, Director of Organizations Department Lamia Al-Nour Mohamed stated that the accompanying exhibition focuses on small and micro industries and provides an opportunity for exchange of ideas among the partners.
