Sudan and Algeria Discuss Reactivation of Cooperation in Oil and Gas Fields

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Walid Isam-Eddin Al-Assad, Wednesday discussed with the Executive Director of Sonatrach, the national company operating in the field of oil and gas in Algeria, Tawfiq Hakkar, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Algeria, Abdelkarim Aouissi, ways to reactivate the cooperation between the two countries in the field of oil and gas.

During his meeting Tuesday with the two Algerian officials on the sidelines of the meetings of the Libyan neighboring countries, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum reviewed Sudan’s available potentialities for investment in the field of oil exploration, especially in light of the conditions that have become favorable in Sudan such as the lifting of sanctions, the removal of its name from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism and the international openness that it is witnessing.

The Secretary General of the Algerian Sonatrach Oil and Gas Complex expressed his satisfaction over the visit and expressed his country’s full readiness to work with Sudan in the proposed fields, indicating that the company has investments in South America, Egypt, Mali, Niger, Tunisia, Libya and all neighboring countries and that the general orientation of Algeria is to be open up to African markets.

The Algerian side suggested sending a working team to Sudan during the last two weeks of September 2021 to discuss all ways of cooperation with Sudan and to conclude the necessary contracts.
