Minister of Labor Meets Chief of UNITAMS

The Minister of labor and Administrative Reform, Tayseer Al-Nawrani, received in her office Sunday the Head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor and Administrative Reform, Yousif Al-Tayeb, and UNITAMS Assistant Chief for Women Affairs.

At the meeting, the Minister of Labor and Administrative Reform pointed out that the issues of transition are great and important, referring to the ongoing efforts to lay down the basis for a democratic transition that supports Sudan stability.

She referred to the role of UNITAMS in raising the capabilities of the ministry cadres and its tasks and coordination between the ministry and the United Nations organizations in the field of administrative reform, adding that the administrative reform in the civil service is one of the government priorities and that their mission is great as a ministry of work and needs to be evaluated from within the ministry.

She stressed the need for experts and the efforts of the United Nations to establish real global scientific policies to be applied in the field of national policies for employment, immigration and national safety projects.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor and Administrative Reform, Yousif Al-Tayeb, has pointed to the ministry’s coordination with international organizations in accordance with international agreements, referring to the role of the ministry in the field of occupational safety and health and its role under of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

He said that the ministry is in the process of reviewing national labor legislations to cope it with international laws.

The head of UNITAMS mission stated that they will work on building an integrated strategic program to build peace and stability in Sudan by the end of current March, adding that they look forward to constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Administrative Reform.

He emphasized UNITAMS role in the administrative reform and assisting Sudan in the development at this field as well as working together with the political parties, Sudan government, the civil society and sectors.

He adding that they are now in the start phase and need to identify the priorities and the challenges from all parties.

The meeting has discussed the possibility of cooperation between the United Nations organizations and agencies, the Ministry of Labor and Administrative Reform and the UNAMIT mission in the fields of administrative reform.
