Minister of Foreign Affairs meets USAID Administrator

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi met at her office here today the visiting United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Administrator Ms. Samantha Power.

Ms. Al-Mahdi presented at the meeting thorough briefing on the efforts of the Sudanese transitional government to address current challenges and its plan for following up implementation of priority projects during the transitional period.

The minister voiced thanks and appreciation of the government of the Sudan for the support being extended by USAID to Sudan in the various domains.

She also pointed out that Sudan looks forward to join all development programs that are being implemented by the agency in the African countries such as Power Africa Program and Prosper Africa Program that can contribute to investments in Sudan in many important fields including clean energy and agriculture.

On her part, Ms. Power commended the positive changes Sudan witness especially pertinent to freedoms and the freedom of expression, appreciating the efforts being made by the Sudanese government to address current great challenges, stressing importance of enhancing cooperation between the government and the concerned bodies to facilitate delivery of humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the critical humanitarian situations of the refugees in eastern Sudan and their increasing numbers due to the conflict in Tigray region.

The meeting underscored importance of urging the international community to support Sudan to contain the crisis.
