Meetings of IGAD Countries Chiefs of Staff Concluded in Khartoum

Khartoum (SUNA) – Meetings of the IGAD Chiefs of Staff were Monday concluded at the Friendship Hall by issuance of the final communique.

The final communique stated that the meeting was held in accordance with outcome of the extraordinary IGAD Summit which was held in Addis Ababa on September 12.

The communique indicated that the meeting was aimed to deliberation on outcome of the IGAD extraordinary summit with regard to expanding delegation of the Regional Protection Force to include Sudan, Uganda, Somalia and Djibouti in addition to the former force.

The communique indicated that the meeting of the IGAD chiefs of staff was also aimed to reconsidering status of the Regional Protection Force and defining its duties on the light of the situation in South Sudan State.

The Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Awad Mohamed Ahmed bin Auf, has addressed the meeting urging all the parties in South Sudan State to work for achieving sustainable security and stability.

He also called on the IGAD member states to utilize all the mechanisms for implementing outcome of the IGAD Chiefs of Staff.

The meeting has heard a comprehensive report given by the Chief of Staff of South Sudan State on the security situation in his country.

The sittings of the meeting have witnessed effective participation of the IGAD chiefs of staff on the means to enhance the security situation in South Sudan State.

The most important outcome of the meeting included formation of a joint team work, headed by Sudan and including representatives of the member states in the Regional Protection Force, to assess putting the Regional Protection Force on the ground and to present its report in the coming meeting of the IGAD chiefs of staff, scheduled in Addis Ababa on November 19, 2018
