IGAD organizes workshop on food security, combat of drought in N. Kordofan

The Acting Secretary General of Government of North Kordofan State and representative of the wali (governor) of the state, Abdel-Muneim Bashir Hamid, has praised the efforts of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for combating effects of drought and preserving environment in member states.

This came when Hamid addressed today in Al-Obied, capital of North Kodofan State, opening session of a workshop organized here by IGAD in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in North Kordofan State, and the Humanitarian Aid Commission.

The Acting Secretary General affirmed the state’s   government keenness for coordination on   activities related to environment, combating drought and maintaining food security, pointing to the   importance of setting up plans and programs to conserve environment and boost food security through benefiting from the state’s resources.

National coordinator of IGAD’s initiative on warding off effects of drought Prof. Al-Nour Abdalla Al-Seddik pointed out the objectives of the workshop which are represented on coordination and setting up of strategies to combat effects of drought and climate changes.Acting Director General of Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in the state Eng. Usama Al-Niama stressed the importance of unifying efforts and coordination in the respective field, saying the workshop is conducive to boosting the ministry’s efforts to achieve its goals in food security and preserve the ecosystem.
