Foreign Minister meets IGAD’s Executive Secretary

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, the Chairperson of IGAD Council of Ministers, has affirmed commitment of the Sudan in its capacity as chair of the organization to intensify its efforts to address the challenges facing the states of the region and enhancing integration among them.

This came when the minister received at her office here today the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, and the accompanying delegation.

The Executive Secretary of IGAD briefed the Minister on current programs and projects of the organization top of them aid extended by the European Union to combat COVID-19 pandemic that targets supporting vulnerable groups.

The minister stressed importance of issues on the agenda of IGAD’s meetings, noting that the strong relations linking the countries and peoples of member states of the organization would help in this regard.

The two sides also discussed developments in the IGAD region besides the proposed agenda for the coming meetings of IGAD Council of Ministers, which focuses on the main concerns of the countries of the group pertinent to peace, development and stability.
