FM Meets UN Secretary General

Foreign Minister, Dr. Mariam Al-Sadig Al-Mahdi, on Thursday met the UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, in his office, IN New York to explain Sudan’s position over the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The minister briefed the UN Secretary General on Sudan’s position represented in the necessity for the three concerned parties to reach abiding agreement for filling and operation of the dam, stressing that the unilateral measures for filling the dam would have destructive impact on the lives of millions of the Sudanese people and affect the safety of the Sudanese water facilities.

Dr. Mariam affirmed Sudan’s commitment to the negotiation frame led by the African Union, calling for role for other partners including the UN.

The UN Chief, on his part, pointed out to the UN concern over the issue , confirming the organization’s readiness to play constructive and positive role to back up the negotiation process.
