EU Announces Support of 100 Million Euro to Sudan

Khartoum,  (SUNA) – The High Representative of the Eurpean Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Vice-President, Josep Borrell Fontelles announced the provision of a sum of 100 million euro for the sudan in addition to the previous sum of 150 million euro, in support for the peace programs, the democratic transiton, the support of the youth’s economic opportunities, the economic reform besides the support to the transitional council of ministers.

This came after the reception of the Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdouk, with Mr. Josep Borrell and the accompanying delegation currently in a two days visit to the country during which they will hold a number of meetings with the state’s officials.

The Prime Minister, has appreciated the supportive stances of the EU to the Sudan and its popular revolution for freedom, peace and justice, referring to the continuous support of the EU as strategic for the Sudan and the region’s interests.

On his part, Mr. Fontelles, indicated that his visit to the Sudan and Africa is the first, noting that his meeting with the Prime Minister was fruitful, and have sent a strong message that the EU is in support of the democratic transition and the economic reform carried by the transitional government in the country.

He added that: “the change that happened in the Sudan was distinguished and unique for its role in raising the values of freedom, peace and justice”.

The visit of the EU official comes in connection with the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the EU the headquarters in Brussels, and his meeting with the forme High Representative of the EU last November.

The visit also comes in the framework of commitment of the EU to support the transitional period, and to enhance confidence between the government and the European Union and the desire of the two parties to advance mutual relations.
